We have designed a website together with numerous partners that as many people as possible can use. Our aim is to allow you, as a potential visitor to our city, to discover what Erfurt has to offer as a barrier-free destination.
The transparent, clearly laid out design of the web pages and the way the data is presented ensures that people who are blind or partially sighted or who have restricted mobility can enjoy extensive access to our content.
If you have any comments or suggestions for improvement, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
For blind and partially sighted people
We offer auditory equivalents of our website content for blind and partially sighted users. Where the
symbol is shown, the relevant text can be spoken like an audio book. Please note that the QuickTime media player must be installed first. We have also set up virtual interviews with historical and mythological figures from the Erfurt history books: Martin Luther, Napoleon, the medieval prankster Till Eulenspiegel and numerous others step out from the shadows of the past and talk about their lives. We have also made sure that our website is easy to use with a screenreader, which converts the text on the screen into speech or braille.
For wheelchair users or visitors with reduced mobility
The vast majority of offers and attractions listed on our website are open to all visitors. Where barriers do remain, we outline these in detail. From step heights and ramps to lifts and clearance spaces, all the necessary information has been compiled by the Erfurt disabled people’s association (Verband der Behinderten Erfurt e.V.). Pictograms are also used to convey information, for example the facilities available at attractions and accommodation.
For families travelling with small children or senior citizens
Some attractions in Erfurt are more suitable for older children, such as the guided tours of Petersberg Citadel. For these and other options, we specify our recommended minimum age. We also outline barriers that you might encounter if you visit Erfurt with small children.
Keyboard navigation and shortcuts
Our website is easy to use with a keyboard. This is important for people who are unable to use a mouse or touchpad to navigate our web pages. Operating a computer with keyboard shortcuts helps people, particularly those with restricted vision or mobility, to navigate the website. But anyone who prefers the keyboard to the mouse can also benefit from the functionality. The letter underlined on a navigation bar corresponds to the same letter on the keyboard. Selecting the letter takes you to the relevant section. The following keys are assigned pre-set commands:
0 = Homepage
1 = Help
6 = Sitemap
9 = Contact
Screen resolution
The content on our website is completely dynamic and can be displayed in every size.
