Kapellendorf Moated Castle

This is one of the largest preserved moated castles in central Germany, with origins going back as far as the 9th century. There is a small museum. During the summer the castle hosts medieval fairs, concerts and plays.
Refreshments are available in the beer garden and at the Burgklause inn.


Last admission 30 minutes before closing. Guided evening tour by prior arrangement.

By car: from Erfurt take the B7 via Weimar towards Jena, after Frankendorf turn off towards Kapellendorf.
