Steigerwald (Steiger Forest)
The Steigerwald forest is located on the southern edge of the city. The forest area, which covers over 1,000 hectares, is ideal for active pursuits far away from the city center. The Steigerwald has been a protected landscape area since 1940 and has several hiking trails, all of which intersect at the so-called "star". There are restaurants in all directions where you can take a break and recharge your batteries. In the Steigerwald, you can discover the "grandfather" (a 150-year-old copper beech), various ponds and swamps and the "Fuchsfarm" nature reserve.
