Former Governors Residence
The building of the electorate's governor's office was built between 1711 and 1720 as a baroque palace according to plans by the master builder Maximilian von Welsch. For a long time, the fate of the city and the state was decided in this building. In October 1808, for example, a meeting between Goethe and Napoleon took place here. Since 1995, the building has housed the Thuringian State Chancellery with the seat of the Thuringian Prime Minister.
The imposing building is located on the edge of the city center directly on the Hirschgarten.
