Combined tour of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites Old Synagogue and Mikveh

(incl. exterior tour of the Stone House)

Erfurt is officially part of the World Heritage Site. This was decided by the members of the World Heritage Committee in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, on 17 September 2013. ‘Jewish-Medieval Heritage Erfurt’ is the Old Synagogue, the Mikveh and the Stone House, which bear the title ‘UNESCO World Heritage Site’. The Old Synagogue is the oldest synagogue in Central Europe with its oldest parts dating back to the 11th century. In the cellar, which was only added after it was converted into a storehouse, you can see the treasure, which consists of coins, jewellery and a unique Jewish wedding ring. Afterwards, you will visit the medieval mikveh discovered in spring 2007 in Erfurt's Kreuzgasse. It forms an important part of Jewish life in Erfurt and is one of the most unique mikvahs in Central Europe.  A medieval stone building, the so-called ‘Stone House’, is located in a multi-part building complex at Benediktsplatz 1 in Erfurt's Old Town. This is an outstanding example of late medieval secular building culture, which can be attributed to Jewish owners from the end of the 13th century at the latest.
