Georgenburse
Martin Luther's living quarters and place of study from 1501 to 1505.
It is widely accepted that Martin Luther, the Augustinian eremitic monk and great Protestant reformer, moved into the Georgenburse (student living quarters) as a seventeen-year-old student in April 1501. In the Middle Ages, most young men pursued their studies in colleges and halls of residence.
In addition to being a key Lutheran site, the Georgenburse is now an educational centre and meeting place that also offers accommodation to pilgrims. It contains a permanent exhibition on medieval academic studies.
