Preacher's Church and Preacher's Monastery
The Predigerkirche, an early Gothic hall church, was built in the 13th–14th centuries by Dominican monks. Here you will find many traces of the great theologian and mystic Meister Eckhart. As prior, he delivered his famous “Sermons on Instruction” here. The east wing of the monastery complex, including the chapter house and refectory, has also been preserved from this period. Highlights include the medieval stained-glass windows in the church’s northern aisle, the choir stalls dating from 1280, the depiction of the Death of the Virgin in the sedilia niche of the high choir, the ruined windows, and much more.
The church is open to visitors from April through October at the following times:
Tuesday through Saturday: 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. In April, it opens at 12:00 p.m.
Sunday: 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
From November through March, the church is not regularly open to visitors. If you would like to visit the church, please call the parish office:
