Small Synagogue

On the trail of jewish history

Guided tour of the Jewish Quarter including the Small Synagogue and Mikveh

Erfurt is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with its Jewish medieval heritage. On a tour of the Jewish Quarter, you will learn about Erfurt's more than 900 years of Jewish history.

The ‘Small Synagogue’, which is visited during the tour, is now a modern multicultural meeting place where you can find a lot of information about the life and suffering of Jewish fellow citizens in Erfurt. The exhibition in the basement is dedicated to the history of the third Jewish community in Erfurt in the 19th and 20th centuries.

The ritual bath, the mikveh, is an important part of the Jewish community alongside the synagogue and cemetery and was rediscovered in 2007.

A tour of the interior of the Old Synagogue is not part of the tour.
